As He hung on the cross, Jesus cried out:

“Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?”

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?”

I’ve heard many explanations.

But one question keeps bothering me.

Jesus had already said that no one was taking His life from Him.

He knew He would be crucified.

He spoke about it long before it happened.

He even refused the option of calling legions of angels to rescue Him.

He prayed,

“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

So…

Why this cry?

Was Jesus expecting something different to happen?

Was He expressing unbearable human suffering?

Was He deliberately quoting Psalm 22, a Scripture written centuries before His birth?

Or is there something happening at the cross that we still don’t fully understand?

Notice something else.

He didn’t say,

“There is no God.”

He still said,

“My God…”

Even in what appears to be His darkest moment.

So what exactly did Jesus mean when He asked,

“Why have You forsaken Me?”

Was He asking a question…

making a declaration…

quoting Scripture…

or revealing something deeper than we often assume?

Jesus said to the thief on the cross:

“Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

— Luke 23:43

But here’s something many Christians have never been told…

The original Greek manuscripts had no commas.

That means translators had to decide where the pause belongs.

Most Bibles read it like this:

“Truly I tell you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Meaning:

The thief would be in Paradise that very day.

But what if the sentence was intended to read this way?

“Truly I tell you today, you will be with Me in Paradise.”

Meaning:

Jesus was making the promise that day… not saying Paradise would be entered that day.

Why does this matter?

Because after His resurrection, Jesus said:

“I have not yet ascended to the Father.”

— John 20:17

So the question becomes…

Was Jesus promising the thief immediate entry into Paradise…

Or was He giving him a certain promise that would be fulfilled later?

One comma.

Two very different meanings.

And the earliest Greek manuscripts leave the punctuation to the reader.

WHERE DID THE RIGHTEOUS GO?

Where was Noah?

Where was Abraham?

Where was Moses?

Where was David?

Were they already in Heaven?

Or were they waiting somewhere else?

Jesus spoke of Hades.

He spoke of Abraham’s side.

He promised the thief Paradise.

Then, after His resurrection, He said:

“I have not yet ascended to the Father.”

So here’s the mystery…

If Heaven was already open…

Why doesn’t the Bible simply say the righteous went there?

If Paradise is Heaven…

Why distinguish the Father’s presence from Paradise?

And if Paradise isn’t Heaven…

Where exactly was it?

Perhaps the greatest mysteries in Scripture are not hidden…

They’re the questions we’ve stopped asking.

WHY DO INNOCENT CHILDREN SUFFER?

A child is born with a painful disease.

Another dies in an earthquake.

Another is abused before learning to speak.

If God is all-powerful, He could stop it.

If God is all-loving, why doesn’t He?

Many answers have been offered:

• It’s because of free will.
• It’s because the world is fallen.
• It’s part of God’s plan.

But does the Bible ever explain why that particular child had to suffer?

Surprisingly, it doesn’t.

Instead, Scripture shows that innocent children do suffer, rejects the idea that every suffering child is being punished for personal sin, and never reveals the reason behind every tragedy.

Perhaps the hardest question in the Bible isn’t whether God exists…

It’s whether we are willing to admit that some of His ways remain beyond our understanding.

Most people believe Satan is already in hell.

The Bible says otherwise.

According to Scripture, this is Satan’s timeline:

1. SATAN IS ACTIVE IN THE WORLD — NOW

He deceives the nations.

He tempts.

He accuses.

He opposes God’s people.

“Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

— 1 Peter 5:8

2. SATAN WILL BE BOUND

An angel will seize him and imprison him in the Abyss for one thousand years.

Revelation 20:1–3

3. SATAN WILL BE RELEASED

After the thousand years, he will be released for a short time.

Not because he escaped…

Because God permits it.

Revelation 20:7

4. SATAN WILL DECEIVE THE NATIONS ONE LAST TIME

He gathers the nations for one final rebellion against God.

Revelation 20:8–9

5. SATAN WILL BE THROWN INTO THE LAKE OF FIRE

Only after the final rebellion.

Not before.

This is his final judgment.

Revelation 20:10

Here’s the question almost nobody asks…

If Satan’s final destination is still future…

Where is he right now?

And if Satan has not yet entered the Lake of Fire…

Who—or what—is in it today?

Those questions may challenge everything you’ve assumed about the unseen world.

WILL WE RECOGNIZE ONE ANOTHER?

Many Christians say…

“Of course we will.”

But is it really that simple?

On the mountain of transfiguration…

The disciples recognized Moses and Elijah.

Matthew 17:1–4

After His resurrection…

Jesus’ disciples eventually recognized Him.

John 20:16

John 21:12

Paul wrote:

“Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.”

— 1 Corinthians 13:12

Those passages seem to point in one direction.

But then Jesus said something unexpected:

“In the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels in heaven.”

— Matthew 22:30

If earthly relationships no longer exist as they do now…

What happens to earthly identity?

Will a husband still know his wife?

Will children know their parents?

Will friends recognize one another?

Or will we know one another in an entirely different way?

The Bible never gives a verse that plainly says,

“Yes, everyone will recognize everyone in heaven.”

Neither does it plainly say,

“No, they won’t.”

It leaves us with evidence…

And a mystery.

Sometimes, the silence between the verses is where the deepest questions begin.

WHAT ARE THE FIRST TWO?

Paul wrote:

“I was caught up to the third heaven.”

— 2 Corinthians 12:2

Then, just two verses later, he called it…

“Paradise.”

— 2 Corinthians 12:4

But here’s the mystery…

Why did Paul say “third” heaven?

Why not simply…

“Heaven”?

If there is a third…

Doesn’t that imply there is a first…

And a second?

Yet the Bible never stops to identify them.

It never says:

• This is the first heaven.
• This is the second heaven.
• This is the third heaven.

It simply assumes you understand.

Then Jesus adds another layer.

“In My Father’s house are many dwelling places.”

— John 14:2

Many dwelling places…

In the third heaven?

The Bible also says that believers will not all receive the same reward.

Some will receive a reward.

Some will suffer loss…

Yet still be saved.

So another question emerges…

If God dwells in the third heaven…

And His house contains many dwelling places…

Could those dwelling places have anything to do with the rewards believers receive?

The Bible never says they do.

The Bible never says they don’t.

Perhaps we’ve spent so much time debating who gets into Heaven…

That we’ve forgotten to ask what Heaven is actually like.

Sometimes the greatest mysteries aren’t hidden from us… they’re hidden in the verses we’ve read all our lives.

Few numbers in the Bible have generated as much debate as this one.

The Book of Revelation speaks of 144,000 servants of God who are sealed before judgment. But who are they really?

• Exactly 144,000 literal Israelites?
• A symbolic picture of all God’s redeemed people?
• A faithful end-time remnant?
• Or does the number itself represent completeness and perfection?

Christians have held different interpretations for centuries, and each side points to Scripture in defense of its view.
