A king was dying.

A prophet brought him a message from God:

“Set your house in order, for you shall die.”

The king wept bitterly.

He prayed.

And God changed the verdict.

But then something even stranger happened.

The king asked for a sign.

Not just any sign.

A sign so impossible that everyone would know it came from God.

And suddenly…

A shadow moved backward.

Not forward.

Backward.

For ten degrees.

Think about that for a moment.

A shadow does not move backward on its own.

Was the sun affected?

Was time altered?

Was it a supernatural sign visible only in a particular place?

Or was it a miracle beyond human explanation?

The Bible records many wonders.

But few are as mysterious as the day a shadow reversed its course.

What exactly happened that day?

Did God temporarily alter the laws of nature?

Or is there something about this event that we still do not fully understand?

Many people speak about “the seven heavens” as though the Bible clearly teaches it.

But does it?

The Bible frequently mentions Heaven, but surprisingly, it rarely describes its structure in detail.

One passage often cited is:

📖 2 Corinthians 12:2

“I knew a man in Christ… caught up to the third heaven.”

Notice something interesting.

Paul did not say first heaven and second heaven before describing them.

He simply said he was caught up to the third heaven.

This has led many Bible scholars to suggest:

1️⃣ The First Heaven — the sky where birds fly.

2️⃣ The Second Heaven — the realm of the stars, sun, moon, and planets.

3️⃣ The Third Heaven — the dwelling place of God.

But where then did the idea of SEVEN heavens come from?

Some point to ancient Jewish writings and traditions that describe multiple heavenly realms.

Others point to Islamic teachings, where seven heavens are explicitly mentioned.

Yet the Bible itself never clearly states:

“There are seven heavens.”

So here is the mystery:

If Paul was caught up to the third heaven, does that mean there are only three?

Or was he simply describing one level among many?

Could there be more heavens than Scripture reveals?

Or are people reading later traditions into the biblical text?

One thing is certain:

The Bible speaks more about how to reach Heaven than how many heavens there are.

Here is something interesting.

In many Igbo communities, when someone does something extremely painful, cruel, or wicked, people may exclaim:

“I bu Ekwensu!”

(You are a devil!)

But think carefully.

If Ekwensu traditionally carries the idea that what is given room will manifest, then why is the same word used for a wicked person?

Could it be because such a person has given room to cruelty?

Given room to wickedness?

Given room to destructive thoughts until they became actions?

In other words, the person is not being called Ekwensu because of horns or a tail.

The person is being called Ekwensu because they have become a vessel for something harmful that was allowed to grow within them.

This raises a deeper question.

When our ancestors called someone Ekwensu, were they merely insulting the person?

Or were they warning us that whatever we repeatedly welcome into our hearts eventually becomes part of who we are?

Perhaps the greatest battle is not against what is outside us.

Perhaps it is against what we allow inside us.

Mention the word “Ekwensu” today, and most people immediately think of the Devil.

But was that always the meaning in Igbo thought?

Many elders explain Ekwensu differently.

According to a common traditional understanding, Ekwensu speaks to a principle:

“If you agree, it will happen.”

“If you give it room, it will occupy it.”

“If you permit it, it will manifest.”

Think about it.

A habit enters because it was given room.

Fear grows because it was entertained.

Hatred expands because it was allowed to settle.

Even good things work the same way.

Wisdom grows when it is welcomed.

Discipline grows when it is practiced.

Success grows when it is nurtured.

Could it be that Ekwensu was not originally about a horned being hiding in darkness, but about a powerful truth of life?

That whatever gains your consent gains influence.

That whatever you continually allow eventually finds a place in your life.

If that understanding is correct, then the question is not:

“Where is Ekwensu?”

The real question is:

“What have I given room to?”

When I was young, my father repeatedly warned us:

“A woman should never carry a baby on her back at night.”

The reason he gave was frightening.

The elders believed that if a woman walked at night with a child tied to her back, unseen spirits could take the baby away without her knowledge.

The woman would continue her journey, thinking the child was still there.

Only when she got home and untied the wrapper would she discover that the baby was gone.

Many people today may laugh at such stories.

But were our ancestors simply being superstitious?

Or were they using powerful stories to protect life?

Think about it.

The mother walks in front.

The child is behind her.

It is dark.

There are no streetlights.

No flashlights.

No phones.

The mother cannot see the baby.

The baby cannot call for help.

If anything happens behind her, she may not notice immediately.

Whether one believes in spiritual activity or not, the warning carried a deep message:

Protect the vulnerable.

Our ancestors understood that the night was full of dangers—both seen and unseen.

So they created stories that people would never forget.

Perhaps the real wisdom was not merely in the fear of spirits.

Perhaps it was in the understanding that a child is too precious to be left unwatched in the darkness.

WHY IS AFOR FEARED IN SOME IGBO COMMUNITIES?

Across many parts of Igboland, an old tradition survives.

A person may die today.

The family may be ready.

The grave may be prepared.

Yet if the burial falls on Afor market day, everything stops.

The funeral is postponed.

The burial waits.

Why?

Who made this rule?

And what was the original reason behind it?

Some elders say Afor is a sacred day connected to powerful spiritual forces.

Others claim it was a day set apart for certain deities and community rituals.

Some believe burying the dead on Afor could bring misfortune upon the family or disturb the relationship between the living and the ancestors.

Yet others argue that the custom may have served practical purposes that have been forgotten over time.

What makes this mystery even more interesting is that not all Igbo communities observe it in exactly the same way.

In some places the restriction is strict.

In others it has faded.

In others it never existed at all.

So the question remains:

Why was Afor considered unsuitable for burials?

Was it a spiritual law?

An ancestral tradition?

A forgotten historical practice?

Or something else entirely?

Why were seasoned men of war so terrified of them?

Were they simply very tall people?

The Bible later mentions giants again—including Goliath, the famous warrior of Gath.

Could there be a connection?

For centuries, scholars, theologians, and readers have debated the mystery of the Anakim.

YET AN ENTIRE INVADING ARMY WAS DESTROYED.

How?

Three powerful nations joined forces against Judah.

The situation looked hopeless.

The enemy was larger.

Stronger.

And already on the move.

Panic spread throughout the land.

But instead of preparing for war, King Jehoshaphat called the people to pray.

Then something unbelievable happened.

Before Judah even reached the battlefield, the invading armies turned on one another.

By the time God’s people arrived…

The war was already over.

Not a single sword had been lifted against them.

What caused the confusion?

Fear?

A misunderstanding?

Or divine intervention?

And if God could fight their battles without them lifting a weapon…
