Most people enter marriage expecting a fairy tale. The Bible offers a more realistic warning.
In 1 Corinthians 7:27-28, Paul writes:
“If you are not married, do not try to find a wife. But if you decide to marry, you have not sinned… But those who marry will have trouble in this life, and I want you to be free from trouble.”
Think about that for a moment.
The Bible does not condemn marriage. It does not call marriage a mistake. In fact, it says:
“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” (Proverbs 18:22)
Yet the same Bible openly admits a truth many people discover only after saying “I do”:
Marriage comes with trouble.
Not because marriage is bad.
Not because your spouse is bad.
But because two imperfect human beings are choosing to share one life.
There will be disagreements.
There will be sacrifices.
There will be financial pressures.
There will be family challenges.
There will be moments that test your patience, faith, and commitment.
The Bible never sold marriage as an escape from problems. It presented marriage as a covenant that requires maturity, wisdom, and endurance.
So perhaps the message is not:
“Don’t get married.”
Rather:
“Get married with your eyes open.”
Marriage is a blessing.
Marriage is a responsibility.
Marriage can bring joy beyond words.
Marriage can also bring challenges beyond expectations.
The Bible warned us long ago.
Marry at your own risk—but also marry with your heart, your mind, and your faith fully awake.
