I never met my grandfather, but I was told a story about his final day that has stayed with me for years.
It was Christmas Day.
He attended church for Christmas Mass and returned home afterward.
When he got back, he asked for food and ate. He then asked for a Christmas drink and was given one.
After that, he called one of my senior brothers and asked him to prepare his bed because he wanted to rest.
When the bed was ready, my brother came back to inform him.
My grandfather went into the room, lay down on his bed, switched on his torchlight, and then peacefully gave up his spirit.
No struggle.
No cry for help.
No warning.
Just peace.
Ever since I heard this story, I have wondered:
Did he somehow know his time had come?
Was turning on the torchlight merely a habit, or was there a deeper meaning behind it?
Was it his way of saying that we should always walk in the light?
Or am I reading too much into it?
What fascinates me most is that he spent Christmas worshipping in church, shared a meal, prepared himself for rest, and then quietly departed from this world.
Some people spend years fearing death.
Yet this story sounds almost like someone peacefully going to sleep.
🤔 What do you think?
Was this simply a coincidence, a remarkable peaceful death, or do you believe there is a deeper spiritual message in the torchlight and the timing of his passing?
