Imagine being saved by something God Himself commanded.
Now imagine that same object being destroyed centuries later… by a godly king.
In the wilderness, God told Moses to raise a bronze serpent on a pole. Those who looked upon it were healed and lived.
A miracle.
A symbol of deliverance.
A reminder of God’s mercy.
But something changed.
Over the generations, people stopped looking beyond the symbol… and started worshipping the symbol itself.
They burned incense to it.
They honored the object more than the God who gave it.
So when King Hezekiah came to power, he did the unthinkable:
He smashed it.
The very object that had once saved lives.
He called it “Nehushtan”—just a piece of bronze.
🤔 Here’s the uncomfortable question:
How often do people turn God’s gifts into God’s replacements?
At what point does a reminder of faith become an object of faith?
Because yesterday’s miracle can become tomorrow’s idol.
And sometimes the hardest idols to destroy are the ones that once came from God.
