WHAT IF YOUR OWN WORDS SET THE TRAP YOU CAN’T ESCAPE?

Jephthah goes into battle desperate for victory.

And in that pressure… he makes a vow:

“If You give me victory, whatever comes out of my house to meet me, I will give to the Lord.”

No details.

No limits.

No way to undo it.

Then the war happens.

And he wins.

Enemies fall.

Victory is secured.

The battle is over.

But the real shock is still waiting at home.

Because the first person to run out to meet him…

is his daughter.

His only child.

Dancing.

Celebrating.

Completely unaware of the vow that just activated.

And suddenly, victory doesn’t feel like victory anymore.

It feels like a debt he didn’t understand he was signing.

So here’s the question that makes this story uncomfortable:

How do you celebrate a breakthrough… when the price of it is something you never intended to lose?
