After Cain killed Abel, God pronounced judgment on him.
Cain responded:
“Whoever finds me will kill me.” — Genesis 4:14
One question immediately follows:
Who was Cain talking about?
The text does not identify who these people were.
Yet God answered by placing a mark on Cain so that “whoever found him” would not kill him (Genesis 4:15).
The passage leaves the reader with a question it does not directly answer.
Who was Cain afraid of?
