🌿 Were Adam and Eve Vegans?

The very first diet God gave humanity might surprise many Christians.

Before sin…
Before the Flood…
Before sacrifices…
Before Noah…

God told Adam and Eve:

“I give you every seed-bearing plant… and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.” — Genesis 1:29

Notice what is missing.

No beef.
No chicken.
No fish.
No goat.
No lamb.

Even more intriguing, Genesis 1:30 says the animals were also given green plants for food.

So here is the question:

If God’s perfect creation began without humans eating animals, what does that tell us about His original design for mankind?

It wasn’t until after the Flood that God explicitly permitted Noah and his descendants to eat meat (Genesis 9:3).

Does this mean eating meat is wrong today? The Bible doesn’t say that. But it does raise an interesting question:

Was humanity’s first diet God’s ideal, while the permission to eat meat came later in response to a changed world?

Perhaps the Garden of Eden still has more to teach us than we have been willing to consider.

What do you think? Was Genesis 1:29 simply the first menu, or was it God’s original blueprint for human living?
