One of the most common teachings in many churches is this:
“If you don’t pay your tithe, you’re robbing God.”
But is that what the New Testament actually teaches?
The tithe was originally 10% of Israel’s produce and livestock, given under the Law of Moses.
Yet the New Testament repeatedly encourages believers to give willingly, cheerfully, and according to what they have decided in their hearts—not under compulsion.
So here are a few questions worth considering:
• Did Jesus command Christians to pay a 10% tithe after His resurrection?
• Did the apostles instruct Gentile believers to tithe?
• Why do some churches insist on tithing but not on the other laws given through Moses?
• Is giving to God an act of love… or a financial obligation?
These are questions every believer should examine from Scripture—not simply from the pulpit.
