One verse in the Bible leaves many readers puzzled.
1 Samuel 16:14 says:
“The Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him.”
Read that again.
An evil spirit… from the LORD?
How should this be understood?
- Did God personally send an evil spirit?
- Was it a form of judgment?
- Or does the passage mean something else entirely?
This is one of those verses that deserves careful reading rather than a quick conclusion.
What do you think this passage really means?
